JUST IN: MRS. DOROTHY BASSI, CHARGED TO COURT FOR ALLEGED CRIMINAL BREACH OF TRUST, AND CHEATING, AMONG OTHERS. HEARING BEGINS 11TH DEC. 2023

The Chief Magistrate Court, Grade 1 Area Court sitting in Nasarawa Gwang, Jos.
The hearing of the case filed against Mrs. Dorothy Bassi, for alleged criminal misappropriation, criminal breach of trust, cheating, cheating by impersonation, defamation, mischief and criminal intimidation has been fixed for 11th December, 2023.
The court fixed the date for witnesses to be called on the matter against the accused person after assuming jurisdiction to hear the case.
Earlier, the Counsel to Mrs. Dorothy Bassi, had filed a Preliminary Objection (PO) challenging the jurisdiction of the court to hear the matter citing the non-signing of the Particulars to the complaint by the complainant.
Responding to the PO, Counsel to the Complainant/Respondent, L.O. Kuwar (Esq), had argued that, even if the Particulars of Complain is not signed, it does not rub the Court of its jurisdiction.
Added that, “The Law provides in a situation like this, you can come with an oral complaint and the registrar would reduce it into writing and subsequently criminal summon would be issue”.
The Judge, Adama Atony Galadima, in her ruling, upheld the objection of the Complainant/Responding Counsel and dismissed the Motion.
Mrs. Dorothy is been dragged to court under Sections, 294, 297, 309, 372 of the P.S.P.C.L.
From the alleged facts gathered, Mrs. Dorothy Bassi, is treading under the name and style of "Hyelansinta Women, Children and Youth Initiative."
Sometime last year, Mrs. Dorothy Bassi went round allegedly convincing people to pay money: for grants, houses and so many things.
She went to the church, "Global Life Mission Church”, Nukpis gate 2 new JUTH Lamingo, convincing more than eight thousand people and mobilized money.
The church were made to believe that, after paying 1,000 naira they would get grants, some one million naira grants, some five hundred thousand naira grants, and the like.
After that, people are also persuaded to pay some large amount of money for what they called, "Project Proposals" they brought money, at the end of the day, all the expectations were not made.
This entire enterprise was allegedly fake, it's a fraudulent skim designed principally to take money out from the general public.
The law in the country need to protect people because this is not the first time we are experienced this kind of fraudulent in Plateau State.
