Demolition Of Shops At Kugiya Market In (Bukuru) Jos South, Affects Traders Appeals To Gov. Mutfwang For Intervention

By: Labaran Ahmed

Traders in Jos South Local Government of plateau state has appealed to Gov. Mutfwang to come to their rescue and prevail on Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB) to stop the current demolitions of Shops at Kugiya Market  in Bukuru metropolis.

The affected traders decried that the demolition has caused the trader untold hardship and phycological confusion as their sources of livelihood are affected particularly at this period some nigerians are only existing but not living, dragging their soul along with them like worn out coat.

The traders made the appeal in an interview with Global News during the demolition of Shops at Kugiya Market in Bukuru, Jos South local government of Plateau State on Saturday 11th of May, 2024.

Some of the affected traders at the  Market who speak to our correspondence on conditions of anonymity said they are appealing to the State government to temper justice with mercy and halt the on going demolitions in the market.

He said although the government issued them with quite notice, while we were reluctant to move is because the government failed to provide them with alternative location for them to commence their business.

Further add that it happened at Tarminus where similar demolitions was carried out, the government before the eviction of the traders at terminus market which is painfully carried out by rendering many family's homeless following  the demolition of their source of income, where given alternative place to relocate which was not done to the traders of Bukuru market.

So we are not fighting Governor Mutfwang's government because we appreciate the developmental projects he has embarked on like road constructions in the state which has direct bearing on the citizens of the State as a whole and the affected traders in particular.

We are using this medium to appeal to our amiable Governor Mutfwang to prevail on  (JMDB) to stop demolition for the sake of God and the families of the affected traders whom their livelihood depends on the demolished shops and give us alternative location to do business, they maintained.

It would be recalled that Jos Metropolitan Development Board JMDB in the state has embarked on demolition of shops allegedly constructed  on area not approved by the government.

And to decongest jos city center for easy movement of  government recent launched Tin City Metro Buses which was flagged off 7th May 2024 which informed  government decision to embarked on aggressive demolitions of Shops built on unapproved locations in Jos/Bukuru metropolis.

Angry reaction from some of the people: " I turned to armed robber because I have no business from today". Some thinking of unknown gunmen as means of survival. I swore never to be silent.
