NVRI Provost Lists Giant Strides of the FCAHPT Vom at it's Combined Convocation & 83 Years Anniversary

The Provost  Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology Vom, Dr.Jude Obi Okpara has itemized many areas of giants strides his administration has exceed 83 years of existence.


He reel out  the history of the College which is among the first generation of Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria established in 1941 long before University of lbadan that was established  in 1946 mandated to train middle level manpower. 

Dr.Jude Obi Okpara in his address at the Combined Convocation and Eighty Three Years Anniversary of the College stated that the College has come a long way in training veterinary manpower in Nigeria and some African Countries; Ghana, Cameron, Gambia etc, that the first President of the Gambia Dauda Jawara was an Alumnus of the College.

Stressed that the convocation ceremony is a combined students from 1992-2023 also celebrating 83 years of the Institution's establishment therefore is unique occasion for the College and all friends and major stakeholders.

The Provost Dr Jude disclosed that the College has experienced steady growth and development within this eight and quarter decades of it's birth. It started with an environment of Ten Students. Some of these students registered for veterinary assistants (Junior  and Senior Courses), and others as Veterinary Officers.

The provost revealed that, the College is now having five schools and twenty -one Programmes  fully accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and other relevant professional bodies such as Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN) and West African Examination Board (WAHEB), (EHERECON), (NSILCN) , among others.

Further add that the staff strength of the College have risen in order to commensurate with the increased number of students as a result of additional courses introduced.

"The College have been able to train both academic and nonacademic staff in various related disciplines at both undergraduate and post graduate levels of education within the last 4 years." 

Reiterated, the college  steady growth  in popularity as applicants compete annually for the collage's approved admission, because of it's stability and consistency in academic calendar, the College is a preferred destination for many young Nigerians seeking further academic pursuit in the field of Agriculture and related disciplines.

Disclosed  that the College is convocating a total number of 9,354 graduands  cut across all departments ranging from certificate, ND and HND.

Add that the college will award honorary fellows to individuals who have disquished themselve in the various field and have contributed to the growth of the Institution entrepreneurship / Agrobusiness and socio economic advancement of Nigeria.

He however congratulates the graduands and urged them to remain worthy ambassadors of the college, also advice them that the world out there is tough and rough terrain full of challenges and opportunities but confident that they have prepared them adequately to navigate these terrain successfully, "Remain focused and pray to almighty God for daily break, we say good luck".

"Our grandands are very well respected and sought after throughout the Country and even internationally. This is largely due to the fact that we have always endeavored to attract and maintain good teaching and learning environment as well as reassuring a disciplined academic Community that preserved a tradition of peace and harmony  among the various organs and unions of the College".

"We are proud to claim to the glory of God, almost never lose a semester of academic activity due to unrest, neither from students nor staff".

"As you are aware for new Academic Programmes, the standing of academic institution is not measurable by the member of graduates produced every year, but also by its ability to expand the number and scope of it's academic offerings. 

"In this regard, the college has within the last 8 years, established new academic Programmes some if which include, ND/HND science laboratory Technology with options Chemistry/Biochemistry, Microbiology and environmental biology. ND/HND VLT with options in Diagnostic imaging, pathology, Microbiology and Anesthesiology, ND Public Health, ND Epidemiology and Disease Control, HND Agribusiness, ND Home and Rural Economics, ND/HND, Environmental Healthy, ND/HND, Computer Science ND/HND, Fisheries Technology, ND Agric Technology, HND in Pest Management Technology, and New baby ND Statistics".
