Reps Member Hon. Amb. Asama Subjects The Creation Of New States In Nigeria To Public Scrutiny Either To Accept It Or Reject It

The member representing the good people of Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency Hon. Amb. Daniel Asama subjected the creation of new States in Nigeria to public scrutiny, either to accept it or reject it.
Hon. Asama said as the representative of the people of Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency, I'm committed to ensuring that you are well-informed about the processes that shape our nation.
" Today, I would like to provide you the synopsis on the procedures for creating New States in Nigeria as outlined in Section 8 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999" Hon. Asama added.
The process of creating a new States is very critical matter that need understanding, according to him, the creation of New States is a complex process that involves several stakeholders and requires careful consideration.
A request for the creation of a new state must be supported by at least two-thirds majority of members representing the area demanding the creation of the new state in the Senate, House of Representatives, House of Assembly, and local government councils is received by the National Assembly.
Stressed that proposal for the creation of the state must be approved in a referendum by at least two-thirds majority of the people of the area where the demand for creation of the state originated.
The result of the referendum must be approved by a simple majority of all the States of the Federation, supported by a simple majority of Members of the Houses of AssemblyAnd thereafter the proposal must be approved by a resolution passed by two-thirds majority of members of each House of the National Assembly.
However said the information will be helpful in understanding the process of creating new states in Nigeria.
