Abdulrahman Mohammed has been elected as the new Chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the North Central Zone. He won the election with a total of 526 votes, defeating his opponent Ajan who scored 18 votes.
The outgoing Chairman, Hon. Theophilus Dakas Shan, reflected on the party's history and the efforts of its founding fathers. He noted that despite challenges, PDP remains the largest political party in Nigeria and Africa.
Dakas Shan criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) government, citing issues like insurgency, terrorism, and land grabbing. He contrasted this with the PDP's past successes, where citizens felt safer.
The outgoing Chairman acknowledged PDP's internal struggles and recent defections. However, he urged party members not to be discouraged and warned those seeking to destroy the party would ultimately harm themselves.
Dakas Shan praised Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang for uniting party members and executing people-oriented projects. He described the Governor's efforts as making PDP a household name in the state and beyond.
The new Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, set to lead the party in the North Central Zone. The zone is considered the epicenter of Nigerian politics, given the party's founding fathers' philosophy.
