Sanitation Concerns: Anguwan Miango Seeks PEPSA's Help

By Labaran Ahmed

The Community Sanitation Chairman of Anguwan Miango, Alh. Bashirun Manu, is seeking the assistance of the Plateau State Environmental and Sanitation Agency (PEPSA) to designate a proper refuse dumping site for the community.

The people of Anguwan Miango community Bukuru lacks a designated dumping site, resulting in residents dumping refuse in waterways, which poses significant environmental and health risks.

Today, June 11, 2025, the Community Sanitation Chairman Alh Bashirun Manu led a comprehensive clean-up exercise in response to complaints from residents behind Kajola Street, where indiscriminate refuse dumping had caused bad odors and environmental concerns.

The exercise began at the residence of Community Youth Leader Aliyu Ibrahim, where the team evacuated the refuse. Chairman Manu emphasized the importance of proper waste disposal, stating, "You are dumping refuse indiscriminately in front of people's houses, and when complaints were made to us, we came and cleared it. We've warned you not to repeat this, as it's hazardous to our health. If we catch anyone dumping refuse here again, we'll take action. Residents are advised to use bags or proper containers to collect their refuse before disposing of it at the designated dumping site. We are committed to ensuring a clean and beautiful Anguwan Miango for all residents."

The committee conducted a house-to-house collection of refuse, educating residents on environmental hygiene and promoting collective responsibility in maintaining a clean community. During the exercise, some residents brought to the chairman's attention the issue of overflowing soakaways, which posed health risks. Chairman Manu promptly addressed the issue, instructing the household to empty their soakaway within a short timeframe.

Given his past experience of living in an area plagued by similar issues, Chairman Manu understands the dangers of dumping refuse in waterways. "As Anguwan Miango is centrally located, any refuse dumped in waterways can affect neighboring areas. We strongly discourage this practice and humbly request PEPSA to designate a proper refuse dumping site for the Communities."

In a bid to enhance sanitation efforts, Chairman Manu appointed Baba Indo A.K.A 'Akaram' as the new Sanitation Leader of the area behind Kajola Street, charging residents to support him in his new role. The sanitation committee remains dedicated to its mission, and the community's cooperation is appreciated, Chairman Bashirun Manu emphasized.
